How are you folks, this week I am sorry to say that I have not had the chance to delve into the world of Skyrim or rain down death upon the ranks of Nazi soliders and the hordes of undead. My week has been bogged down by educational and personal projects. No time for games or television, speaking of which I have not watched TV in about three to four months, I don't miss it either. There is never anything on and news programs only show bad news. Now on that topic of news I do listen to the radio while working this helps drown out background noise and I can actually focus better on the task at hand. But I digress, about the news I heard about the neighborhood watch person shooting the boy in Florida. I wasn't there so I can not say yes or no to wether or not the shooting was justifiable due to what the guy said was self defense. My reason for getting into this is about the sterotyping of the victim and the shooter. I have heard that the boy was dressed in a hoodie and the baggy saggin pants. The shooter has been refered to as a gun toting vigelilante, some one out to make a name for himself. I don't know which sterotype he would fit but I know there is one out there. Let me be straight I do not intend to say that because a person looks a certian way that this is the type of person they are, but face it apperance is everything in our society. Sterotypes play an important part of our society, and these days we are taught that no, we shouldn't do it. I have a problem with that, what I observe in our culture is that individuals that take part in particular activities sterotype themselves. On television and in the movies these stereotypes are heavily relied upon to get the visual across. My point is that if they are casting someone to play the part of a gang member they are not going to cast me and let me dress the way that I do. They are going to get the guy that fits the sterotype. Now I am not close minded or racist by any means I am a lover of all peoples. What I am trying to communicate in all of this is that if you dress like crap you are going to attract the flies. This is my point that we use sterotypes everyday and wether or not you realize it you may be alive due to sterotypes. You are not going to go to "that" side of town to do your shopping, or buy a house in "that" side of town, why, you don't want to get robbed, shot, or stabbed. Please comment and let me know your thoughts about sterotypes. Also and most importantly, remember to pray for the families involved in the tradgedy in Florida.
